Greetings citizens!
As already started on Intergalactical Summit IS link I intend to gather the "roleplayers" of EVE to unite and increase the roleplay aspects of EVE.
Until now, occasional attemps have been made by GMs and CCP to improve RP, but in comparision to the pure balancing and technical changes, and in regard of the many "powerplayers" who do not care too much about roleplay, I feel there should be done more, much more.
I see two fields that need improvement, this is a) the game itself, technically spoken, and b) the players that need to get involved more into the roleplay.
I would like to have an ooc-meeting of the roleplay corporations, next sunday EVEning (21:00 EVE) where we talk about complains and possible improvements regarding EVE and roleplay. It will certainly become more a brainstorming session, but might lead to decent proposals, too.
Proposals like: RP demonstration event, stronger public relation of/for roleplay corporations, more RP features ingame (where can I give my slaves to someone who cares? missions? changes in CONCORD/local security?) ...
It would be good to read your comments and ideas here before we start talking on sunday. ____________________________________________________

I am happy to see the response and if this initiative only helps some of us to find a proper and decent "role" it would be worth it already. Of course, I want more impact than that
To allow everyone to join the meeting (not only CEOs are welcome, you can invite your corp members or friends, regardless of their position/rank/race/role) I will set up a channel ingame, maybe MMORPG if this one is still available. I will open an according channel tonight, testwise, and post its name here. ____________________________________________________

Quote: Another problem is that way too many people see RP as either Amarr vs Minmatar or Caldari vs Gallente. TBH thats the very basic roleplaying and pretty much is a one trick pony. The Racial politics were a nice training area for beginers but it would be nice to see more people branch out and move beyond the simplistic.
Indeed, the last weeks did show evidence for this, people working on "new pathes". Something I am absolutely appreciating.

It's actually an MMOG and is such for a reason
Oh, seems someone changed my CD box ... afaik it was MMORPG ... at least when I joined during the days of Medusa. ____________________________________________________

Edited by: Randuin MaraL on 17/03/2004 19:48:46 Excellent comment, Disco' 'tis exactly what I am aiming at.
For me, personally, RP adds the spice I need to stay addicted something that goes beyond the standard blasting of enemies.
The MMORPG channel is created and open on sunday. ____________________________________________________

Quote: There's more then enough information, Slithereen. Most of the current rp is based on the pre-beta view.
I don't agree that you need a firm basis, or a guide like "How to RP a minmatar".
No, rather then focussing on how-to anything, focus on what in-game tools you'd like to see to facilitate RP.
IMHO the available storyline and background infformation give a decent frame for roleplay already. It is not a must to stick to this frame with ones roleplay, there are good examples of people crossing these borders.
Indeed, what I wwould like to find out on sunday evening 21:00 EVE on MMORPG channel is, how "we" can a) demonstrate that we are not a small group of dreamers but a valuable part of the community b) make sure that CCP introduces RP supporting features/tools ingame and onboards c) present a list of such needed/nice-to-have features/tools d) increase the interest for RP within our races/factions/corporations ____________________________________________________

Another problem is, who do I play?
If you look at my character's picture, you will see, he has a certain madness in his eyes, right from the start I decided that would be a part of my character, I want him to be ecentric, because, well, people have noted that I can be quite a nutcase sometimes , but I have simply no idea what my choices are, and I'm a newbie, there isn't really much I can do, is there?
Take your ship, make yourself a name as an eccentric artist maybe, who travels from region to region - just let your imagination flow. ____________________________________________________

It would allow more people to air their opinion, and it would give people more time to think, no?
The discussion can and will continue on the forums, of course. However, "ingame" has a closer relation to the character, and channel meetings have sort of a tradition, too ____________________________________________________

Quote: How can you make a name for yourself as a mad artist when there is no art in the game? How would someone who say, wanted to be a politician, actually do that? What about someone who just wanted to be plain evil? Now, note evil is different from merely being a criminal (a pirate in this game's case), and evil person would kill thousands, I don't particularly believe in evil, but that is an entirely different matter, I'm using the word 'evil' for explanatory practices, well, they couldn't actually do that, could they? You can't starve the population of a planet, you can create art and you can't climb the political ladder.
VoilÓ, this is a good example for things we feel that lack, or could improve the RP aspect of EVE, for ideas that "could" soon(er or later)TM or even never become reality - as well as painting ships groupwise alike, or a configurable randomized good that a pilot could name "piece of art" and place it on the market. Let your inspiration and vision go, I feel there is much input possible. ____________________________________________________

Thank you Tsual!
The MMORPG channel where we meet on sunday 21:00 EVE is operated by myself now and can even be moderated. That way, one of the ingame tools already helps us to discuss how to improve the RP aspect of EVE.
I thank you all for the active discussion here, crossing IC-borders and bringing in a lot of aspects and ideas, this is what I had in mind when I started this "movement". I look forward to continue this beyond sunday evening with you all. ____________________________________________________

The topic is and will remain:
"Improving the RP aspect of this mmoRPg"
Thus discussion about "what could/needs to be done in EVE" aka "What can we propose CCP to implement and how do we make them implement it"
Of course that MMORPG channel can be used on other times for open discussion if you people wish for it. ____________________________________________________

I think the 30th of april 2004 looks good for a next meeting - say 20.00 EVE time, same place MMORPG channel pwd "eve"
Until then - feel free to add your comments and ideas here. There is a website/forum available (not mine ) that us RPs can use for "technical discussion" [can not post the link here now, as I am not at home, will post it asap], would you be interested in using it - or shall we discuss here? ____________________________________________________

This is the log of the 1st summit.
Next summit I would like us to - see what has happened during the time, wrap up last summit etc. - discuss the ways how to make CCP add more RP tools/options - make proposals to CCP regarding events/story/tools - discuss how to introduce roleplay to new players
If you have other topics you wish to talk about - let me know/post'em here. ____________________________________________________

Quote: In EVE however there is only 1 server and you stuck with everyone on it. The rp'ers, the l33t h4><0rz
How can you tell the difference, isn't l33t a fair thing to roleplay in this enviroment. It seems that alot (not all) of people see roleplaying as nothing but following the most obvious racial stereotype, which get wearing after a while.
I doubt the elite pilots, coming from universes or academies, in the future will talk l33t or smack. To do so is IMHO simple lazyness from a rolepoint point of view. Those players do not roleplay, they just play themselves. Roleplay in EVE is for example to "be" in that industrial ship carrying high value freight through dangerous, unsecure systems and to behave accordingly. 'tis not necessary to stick to that simple racial plot. Many have freed themselves from this plot and successfully found a roleplay path for themselves.
But this is not the aim of this meeting. Everyone should enjoy his own style of playing EVE of course. What we want to find out is how to improve the RP part of EVE, what can be done to interest players for it and what can be done by CCP to improve roleplay here. ____________________________________________________
